Vilgain White Monkey (Bai Mao Hou) is a higher grade of Chinese green tea that comes from themountain tea gardens of Guangxi Province. It is hand-harvested in early spring and is prepared from the youngest, undeveloped leaves and tender buds of the Camellia sinensis tea plant. It is characterized by a high proportion of white fluffy tips, which give it a delicate, sweet taste with tones of fruit, herbs and nut.

A rare tea with a legend

According to Chinese legend, mountain monkeys used to collect tea for local monks – hence its name “White Monkey”. In reality, however, it refers to the shape of the delicately rolled leaves, which, when dried, resemble small monkey paws. The collection is very demanding and only takes place during a short period of early spring, when the buds have the highest content of amino acids and antioxidants.

Processing in accordance with tradition

The harvesting and production of White Monkey requires extreme precision. After harvesting, the leaves are allowed to wilt, lightly heated to stop oxidation, and hand-shaped into a delicately curved shape. It is then slowly dried at low temperature to preserve its characteristic white fluff, fresh aroma and delicate taste.

Harmonious taste with a fruity profile

Unlike teas like Gunpowder, which are rolled into balls and have a stronger, bolder flavor, White Monkey is finely rolled and offers a delicate profile with a sweet hint. It is ideal for those who want to enjoy a cup of tea any time of day. It can also be prepared as a gentle ice tea.

A rich source of natural substances

Young leaves and buds of White Monkey containL-theanine, which promotes relaxation. The fine white fluff, called trichomes, contains aromatic oils that release delicate floral and herbal notes when soaked.

Recommended preparation

Use 7g of tea in 500ml of water at 75-80°C and steep for 1-2 minutes. Can be poured repeatedly.

For iced tea: prepare the tea in the classic way, then cool it down to preserve the delicate flavors.
